Think Tiffany & Co. Engagement Rings Are Expensive?

Tiffany & Co. is one of the most famous luxury jewelry retailers in the US. Their engagement rings are incredibly popular, but as you can already imagine they aren’t cheap. If you’re on a tight budget you may wonder how to get a Tiffany & Co. ring without spending an outrageous amount of money. This article will help!

The diamond game improved significantly in recent years. Besides physical stores such as Tiffany & Co., there are also online-only stores. Unfortunately, many people might feel inclined to dismiss online-only diamond stores but they are a more convenient option.  You can get high-quality diamonds for a significantly lower price.

First impression

Tiffany & Co. really is a whole new world comparing to some other luxury jewelry retailers. While in most cases you feel like you’ve stepped in any other store, Tiffany & Co. makes you feel special. From the moment you walk through the door, the their staff greets you, which is a great touch.

The interior is elegant, luxurious, and stylish. Just by looking around, it’s easy to conclude Tiffany & Co. is a big retailer that pays a lot of attention into making customers feel comfortable. But, how do their diamonds compare?

Are you overpaying for blue box?

Tiffany Sitting and Blue BoxTiffany’s little blue box is the synonym for engagement rings and jewelry worldwide. Every girl wants to get that box from her loved one and every guy wants to be able to afford and buy it. But, women don’t wear blue boxes on their fingers. The process of buying an engagement ring should be more than getting that blue box. In fact, you are overpaying thousands of dollars just for a simple little box a girl will store somewhere and forget where it is.

If you really want to save money and buy Tiffany’s engagement ring for less the best piece of advice to follow is not to buy them from a chain jeweler. In fact, you can save up to 50% this way.

Tiffany’s and other major jewelers spend millions on advertising and are easily accessible wherever you are. The idea of buying a diamond from a reputable company gives you a peace of mind, but that’s just it. This doesn’t mean their diamonds really are better than elsewhere. It just means they have more money to invest in marketing.

What’s more the easy availability of Tiffany’s costs you fortune because you are obliged to pay state sales tax. This doesn’t happen with less known, online-only stores. Not only you don’t pay tax but you can get almost identical rings for much lower price

The experiment

To demonstrate this, we will compare Tiffany Novo with a ring purchased from JamesAllen.com.

The original idea to compare the best value 1-carat cushion from James Allen to the cheapest 1ct Novo I from Tiffany failed. The reason is, as you can guess, expensive price. The cheapest 1ct diamond they had in store was $22,000.Tiffany Novo

The cost of Tiffany Novo was $6300 before tax and $6859 including state sales tax. The ring from James Allen had 1.00ct color H and clarity SI1 clarity. It was a square cushion cut while the setting was 18k, material white gold 2.0mm from Art-Nouveau line. The price of this diamond was $3330 while the setting cost $1150.

Basically, I purchased a diamond and setting from James Allen similar to Tiffany’s and paid around $5000.

James Allen’s ring was eye clean and it was a way better diamond than the one from Tiffany’s. In addition, the one-carat ring from Tiffany would have a total cost of $9000 more than counterpart from James Allen.

Conclusion

Engagement rings from Tiffany’s are widely popular, but their price tog is way too high. If you are on a tight budget and wondering how to afford such a ring, don’t underestimate the potential of online-only websites like James Allen. These websites offer rings that look almost identical to Tiffany’s, but with a more convenient price. The reason why diamonds on these websites are more affordable is that you don’t need to pay state sale tax.
